How to Marry A Millionaire is another one of those fabulous old movies that I have been meaning to watch for a long time. Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall all star as single women looking for the ideal millionaire to hitch their little wagons to.
It begins with Lauren Bacall's character, Schatze, renting a high-style apartment from a wealthy man evading the taxman. She immediately takes possession of the place and invites Marilyn's character, Pola, over to check out the new place. She arrives bumping into walls - she refuses to wear her glasses because "boys don't like girls who wear glasses"...shortly afterwards, third roommate Loco (Betty Grable's character) arrives with a man right behind her. She always manages to finesse a man into buying anything she wants or needs.
Throughout the movie we see in a very plain way how searching for love through a wallet is NOT the best idea for one's heart. Loco and Pola both find their fellows, neither of which is a wealthy guy. They end up choosing love for love's sake. Schatze on the other hand, well, she decides to go for money alone. Just before making a HUGE mistake and marrying the man, she thinks better of it and ends up with a crush - only to find out he's made of money.
