The Little Princess - 1939

The Little Princess is one of those fantastic Shirley Temple movies that Emmy and I will probably watch a bunch more of before this experiment is over.

We both needed some mommy-daughter cuddle time last night and this was the perfect movie for us. This movie is about little Sara and her dad Captain Crewe. Her father leaves for war and leaves her at a school for girls. Before he leaves, he sets up an account for her expenses and promises to be back soon.

It takes longer than expected and the money runs out. Captain Crewe shows up on the "wounded and missing" list. Everyone believes that he's dead - except for Sara. The money is gone and Sara is soon made to work for her food. She travels frequently back and forth to the hospital searching for more unknown returning soldiers...hoping one day she finds her father. One night, she dreams a wonderful dream and wakes up to find silk robes and comforter and a delightful breakfast for her and for her friend (fellow servant girl) Becky. She decides to head out early to the hospital. She finds her father getting ready to be shipped out for treatment of memory loss. She holds him close and soon he remembers who he is and holds Sara close too. They are again a happy, loving family.
