Weird...and strange...and interesting - all wrapped up into one.
I am continuing my adventure into the world of the psychedelic and decided to watch this movie starring Peter Sellers. It was a mad-cap romp (I think this phrase only qualifies for movies done during this era) through the life of poor Harold - a Jewish lawyer looking for meaning in the whole madness that has become his life. He's "engaged" to a sweet enough girl (Joyce)...his mother's proud of him, but he's just not sure where his life is going.
"I'm so hip it hurts!"
So Harold's brother, Herbie - who's very involved with the counter-culture movement in Venice Beach comes back into Harold's life and Harold meets Nancy. Harold falls hard for Nancy after seeing how "free" she is...he feels so trapped by his things and his job responsibilities. Harold decides to drop out - so he starts bringing all sorts of hippies into his house and letting them stay there for one long never-ending party. Pretty soon the only one not enjoying himself is Harold.
So Harold changes his mind about dropping out and begins appreciating what he had with Joyce and his sedate life as a lawyer becomes the welcome thing again. The movie ends with Harold and Joyce walking down the aisle. Just as they are about to be wed, Harold takes off for points unknown.
