9 to 5 - 1980

Wow, there are a lot of numbers in that title.

So 9 to 5 is one of the first grown-up movies I remember watching when I was pretty young. And thank goodness I did - although watching it again later as an adult (and with some of the workplace experience I have had) I can see a lot of the women's lib stuff that was so new to the workplace back in 1980. In fact, I was quite surprised when I realized some of the comments I took in an off-hand way WAY back when I first watched it now seem very important. I am trying to think of any other movie that came out back around then (besides Tootsie) that really addressed what it was like to be a working woman.

Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and (her highness) Dolly Parton star with Dabney Colman in this movie. The ladies work together at a large company and Colman is their boss (whom Lily's character Violet actually TRAINED when he first came on board with the company). Colman is a tough guy - and doesn't have any respect for women. The ladies get together and discuss their situation and share fantasies about getting back at him. Before they know it, a series of events happen that bring a version of their fantasies into reality. Surely a dream come true for any "girl" looking for more respect from her boss in the workplace.
