(For Saturday 2/19) Stone of Destiny - 2008

THIS is what I started this blog for. SERIOUSLY! A movie I had no idea existed until I suddenly came across it on Netflix and selected it for my experiment since it matched SEVERAL of my criteria: PG rating (even Emmy can watch it with me), interesting plot (a mythilogical stone solen?) and not too long in length.

Stone of Destiny is one of those movies that you'll really thank me later for watching with family or older kids. It's actually the retelling of a true story about four students who want to take back the Stone of Scone - more acurately a BLOCK of stone - that was sat on by kings of Scotland at every coronation until it was taken away to England in 1296.

This movie was reminiscent of Across The Universe - only without the sex, violence and bad language. There wasn't any major strike of lightning when this movie came out...no one had tons of trailers running on ever major network - but this is one of those movies that sneaks under the radar because no one was pandering. No one was trying to make it into something Hollywood approved of...instead it was made in the image of National Treasure: Scotland Edition.
