Cuba Gooding Junior and Beyonce make a movie? TOTALLY COOL! I have to say, I really loved the music in this movie. Of course I like the story line too – but I liked it better the first time when I saw it in Sister Act. Actually, it wasn’t EXACTLY the same – but it’s the same idea. Secular selfish person suddenly gets dropped into the middle of a situation where they’re required to be ethical and honest.
Cuba Gooding JR is an ad executive who after being let go from his job, gets an opportune contact about a dead aunt and decides to sell his evil soul over to the attempt to comply with the will where the aunt who died and has outlined an offer to leave him a fortune IF – and only IF – he manages to lead the church choir to the finals and WIN.
When he rolls into town, complete with lies and half-truth baggage, he manages to capture the interest and cooperation of most of the choir participants. Of course he runs into a little push-back from local town Hottie and Mary Magdalene, Beyonce.
Just like Sister Act and a million fairy tales before this, it has a happily ever after. It is heartwarming and sweet – and all in all, a very respectful movie that addresses the lack of ethics and responsibility for own actions that so many people lack these days. For that reason, I would definitely consider this family friendly for those people who are 10 and older.
