(For Friday 5/20) Mamma Mia - 2008

I have seen this movie several times and I like it for all the same reasons that my mom and HER friends liked it. Powerful female roles, great ABBA soundtrack, the wonderful views of Greece and finally...because it's the quintessential chick flick. Oh, and not to mention that the eye candy in form of classic handsome men is pretty staggering. I think Pierce Brosnan is the Sean Connery of THIS generation of women - which is quite funny since they both played James Bond.

Meryl Streep (swoon) plays Donna - mother of the bride who is Sophie. Sophie is marrying her love and they are both extremely young and fresh faced and have a tangible attraction. The entire experience of the wedding starts to cause Donna to re-examine her life and her life choices. Sophie doesn't know her dad and Donna doesn't know which of three men could be Sophie's dad. Sophie invites all three - looking for some sort of magical closure by having them all walk down the aisle with her - or by meeting them she'll discover once and for all who SHE'S supposed to be. Instead she really only succeeds in making everyone uncomfortable. Although it does help her make a decision that probably ended up being a good one. And it leads to her mom finding happiness and love again. Which goes to show that it's never too late to find it, feel it and embrace it.
