(For Saturday 7/2) Harum Scarum - 1965

I decided to try and watch *another* Elvis movie. I mean, the last one was REALLY cute and I was hoping very much that this one would be the same.

(Cue the annoyingly loud ERROR buzzer here)

This movie was such a waste of time. Imagine, if you will, Hollywood in the 1960's attempting to do a movie about the far east - a place untouchable by Americans and only known to those people living there. It was a joke. Billy Barty (yes, THAT Billy Barty) was the only bright spot in an otherwise insulting, dull and languishing movie looking for some sort of common ground - in VAIN.

Ironic that all the people in this foreign land spoke perfect "Tarzan" English. Also ironic that they all understood Western culture and didn't need to be introduced to the American celebrity "Johnny Tyrone" - they just magically knew who he was.

I realize back then that doing one beach party movie after another was probably pretty tedious, but the last Elvis movie at LEAST had some minor grip on reality. This movie was just a lousy example of a teen-heartthrob movie gone completely wrong.
