A briefer version of the BBC documentary, Planet Earth, this documentary I watched was Planet Earth 4D. They showed it at the Shedd Aquarium the day we went in Chicago and we thoroughly enjoyed our first "4-D" experience. It was breath-taking, beautiful and heartwarming - and also frightening at times. I never imagined a baby polar bear was subjected to "real life" quite so soon. I know *I* can't imagine shoving my child down an icy slope just days after birth!
Scenes with the empire penguin dads carrying the tiny eggs through the winter and helping them hatch, watching the world unfold around them - all very moving and very inspiring. We take for granted so much of the animal husbandry that happens in the world - some species go through such effort just to continue existing. It boggles the mind.
The 4th dimension of our experience was to have rumbling happen under our seats as elephants and zebras trounced by, cold air blown on us as the polar bears played in the snow and bubbles blown at us as fish bubbled under the deep waters of tropic oceans. An interesting experience that almost made the entire thing more cheesy than educational. I guess everyone expects a shtick sometimes.
