Anne of Green Gables The Continuing Story, Part 2 - 2000

In order to watch both Part 1 and Part 2 of this movie, I had to finagle a few things. Part 1 was actually shown on BYU Television - which we get on cable. I located Part 2 on the Netflix website and I put it as the very next movie in the que. However, the movie we had on hand from Netflix was one of those movies that you don't REALLY want to watch unless you're in the right mood and I had to wait out the time between when the movie got watched and Netflix sent the copy of Part 2 to my mailbox.

I thought this movie would tie up a few more loose ends for me - and, for the most part, it did. I had some pretty serious issues with it though. For example, at the beginning, we see Anne with Dominic and Fred (Jack's child and Diana's husband). How she managed to come across Fred randomly in the middle of a war zone was more than a little unbelievable. Also, Anne seemed to be content at first with pushing Dominic off on everyone after Collette made her promise before she passed away that she wouldn't let Dominic out of her sight. Anne travels with baby and Fred to London where Jack informed her about flat he rented there. She arrives and becomes the object of suspicion as it turns out that Jack is secretly a spy.

A lot of miscellanious details that really had no place in an Anne of Green Gables storyline were scattered throughout this movie. I kind of expected that the movie would have involved a lot more of the Gilbert-Anne love story. I was mistaken. In fact, I felt that the script was leading the viewers to hope for a Jack-Dominic-Anne partnership...which just made me more confused since I was watching it primarily to see Anne and Gilbert share a happy life together. I guess that's what the last 4 minutes of the movie was for.

One last note - I thought this was the LAST movie in the series, but I just found out there's another chapter in the series. I just may have to watch it - in order to feel like things have gone full-circle.

  1. I have only seen snippets of this movie, mostly because I'm only interested in the Anne/Gilbert/Avonlea parts of the story, and because I have read all the books and I expect the movies to stay true. So I really appreciate this review, I will probably avoid watching the entire movie and just let the story live on in my mind the way I want it to. :)
