Waiting For Guffman - 1996

This happens to be post number 30. :) One month down, 11 more to go!

Last night I selected "Waiting for Guffman" for several reasons. The most important of these reasons is that I love love love anything done by Christopher Guest. This movie is one of those secretly hysterical movies that you can watch and smile throughout the entire movie. The actors do an incredible job of being the characters that they are assigned in the script. So much so that you almost believe you are actually watching a DOCUMENTARY and not a MOCKumentary.

Waiting For Guffman COULD take place in almost any small town, but it happens to take place in Blaine, MO. You can even see the courthouse in the movie! The entire town is swept up in Blaine's 150th anniversary. Citizens try out and hope they get roles in a play chronicling the history of Blaine. Hilarity ensues as we see the auditions and casting and watch the reactions of the actors as they play their characters - an actor as an actor as an actor. Confused yet? Don't be - it's so tongue-in-cheek and SO over-the-top funny with moments where you want to hide your face in embarrassment for these people and yet you watch - because it's a fabulous train wreck too. If you love this one, you should also watch "Best in Show" and "A Mighty Wind".
