My Girl 2 is the perfect movie for a nine year old and a thirty-seven year old to watch together. Emmy wasn't feeling that well, so I decided to include her on the movie choice. We actually watched a Rockumentary on Queen that I was going to post a blog entry about (Emmy loves Queen) but she needed something else to distract her. I thought about the movie My Girl 2 and remembered that I really enjoyed the music - especially when Elton John's song "Tiny Dancer" comes on when Vada (played by Anna Chlumsky) is on the airplane headed to Los Angeles.
My Girl 2 is the less-teary sequel to My Girl where McCauly Calkin dies in a horrible bee accident. In this movie, Vada's dad Harry (Dan Ackroyd) and new step-mother Shelly (Jamie Lee Curtis) are expecting a new baby. Vada has to give up her old room and she starts feeling the urge to explore her roots when a school assignment piques her interest and starts raising questions about her mother - who died when Vada was born.
It's a family-friendly movie - and heart-warming too.
