Most people who KNOW ME know me, know that I am a big fan of Egyptology. About five years ago, I actually went around bragging that Dr. Zahi Hawass was a friend of mine on MySpace. And yeah, I also spent $70 on an "ancient Egyptian artifact" in an auction on eBay that may or may not be legit (even MY money's on the fact that I probably got schnookered there).
I saw The Mummy and I also saw The Mummy Returns. I loved them...I really did. I looked SO forward to seeing something similar when The Scorpion King came out - and yet somehow I never saw it. I chalk that up to the fact that I gave birth 3 weeks after The Mummy Returns came out - and The Scorpion King came out a year after that. So over the years I have MEANT to see it, but it's been one of those movies that I have needed perfect conditions to watch (read: no one else but me really wanted to see it, so I had to watch it alone). Last night I crawled into bed and found it on network TV. I decided it was the perfect time to see it.
After so many years of waiting, I must say that I just wish I had continued to wait. The movie was soooo much better in my mind. The acting was stiff and hollow, the scenery, while lovely, was not filmed in the best of circumstances and the script pretty-much sucked. With the exception of the sandstorm scene, I would say that the movie was a disappointment. I wanted more Mummy and less of The Rock's biceps. I wanted more Egypt and less mostly-naked priestess chick. Basically, I wanted a completely different (and MUCH BETTER) movie than I got. Darn it.
