When this movie first came out, there was hardly a person I knew who couldn't wait to see it. It was SO long awaited - and many die-hard Simpsons fans thought there might be some major issues with the movie and it wouldn't come close to satisfying fans like the televisions series had succeeded in doing for so long.
In our family, we've been long-time Simpsons viewers. I personally remember the days when The Simpsons was a short little moment in the Tracy Ulmann show. Nowadays, my almost-9-year-old thinks Lisa and Bart and Maggie are the coolest things ever - we love watching it on Sunday nights. It seems to wrap us back together from the craziness of the weekend and get us ready for the week ahead. We were hesitant to let Emmy see this movie because we heard that viewers see Bart's...um, well...his little yellow thingie...so to speak...AHEM...ANYWAY....
The beginning of the movie brings viewers into the world at Evergreen Terrace and we see that we have only just begun to imagine the horrors that Homer can be responsible for. Not too far in, we see the family being driven out of town by an angry mob and Homer and Marge attempt to start over far away from their home in Springfield. Marge is very disappointed in how Homer chooses to react to certain errors in judgement and she ends up taking Bart, Lisa and Maggie away - and heading back to Springfield to try and help their neighbors and friends. Homer eventually sees the light and follows Marge back home. Whether or not she ends up welcoming him back with open arms depends on whether or not Homer can rise to the occasion and help everyone return their lives back to normal.
