Have you ever noticed how Hollywood puts out the same movie simultaneously? I mean, check out Antz and A Bugs Life - they came out at the same time, and they're pretty much the same movie. How about Deep Impact and Armageddon? If memory recalls, Deep Impact won that war. Do you remember Mission to Mars and Red planet? Yeah, me either...but THEY came out at the same time too!
I decided that it might be a nice experiment to grab two movies that just came out and watch them consecutive nights and share my thoughts.
Clash of the Titans was a movie that I somehow missed seeing prior to last night. I had no idea what it was even about. However, I have a 9 year old who is currently obsessed with Greek gods. We were at our local Big Box store shopping for groceries and she needed to go to the rest room. As we passed the electronics section, we saw a movie playing on several flat-screens. We stood transfixed as we watched a giant creature try and tear an ancient city apart. Emmy knew immediately who the characters were - and I was just confused. We searched for a store associate who could tell us what movie it was. Her name was Athena. The movie was Clash of the Titans.
It's basically about a demi-god on earth (a son of a god and a human) and it turns out he's the only solution to an end-of-the-world type of problem. We watch as he accomplishes several different types of quests, barely surviving. He manages the impossible - surviving the den of Medusa - and rushes to defeat the Kraken, the creature preparing to destroy everything (and everyone) in it's sight. He succeeds and he garners the support and appreciation of the gods.
I thought it was a good movie - not a GREAT movie. The special effects were good and we really enjoyed seeing the interpretations of the demi gods and the mythical creatures.
