Modern Marvels: Television: Window To The World - 1996

The history channel has a documentary series called "Modern Marvels" and I have watched a couple of programs in this series. The one I watched last night was extremely interesting and very informative. I actually enjoyed this program for a couple of reasons - it just so happens that one of my best friends at work, Jackie, told me that her husband was related to Philo T. Farnsworth - and it ALSO just so happens that my husband's close friend Chris Farnsworth is ALSO related to Philo T. Farnsworth. Who is Philo T. Farnsworth?

Philo T. Farnsworth invented the television. What's more, he invented it as a young boy in in elementary school. When everyone else brought simple things from home to show and tell, Philo brought documentation and equipment that he had somehow managed to design in such a way as to create the idea of TELEVISION.

Philo worked for several years on his invention and then ended up in college at Brigham Young University. He eventually saw his invention become realized as television and he has the distinction of truly being the father of the television.

  1. Pretty cool that you know people who know people. At the moment I'm not very happy with Mr. Farnsworth because my kids won't leave the TV alone, but on Sunday nights...I love him! :)
