True Life: I Live In The Projects - 2007

So I did say documentaries counted as movies. Not sure anyone would fight me on that. :) MTV documentaries totally count. In fact, some could argue that they have some of the most current subject matter since they are able to film a documentary SERIES and produce multiple shows in a season.

Last night I watched "I Live In The Projects". It surrounded the telling of a couple of people's experiences with living in or coming from the projects. One girl is absolutely dedicated to getting herself out. She works at a Borders bookstore and lives at home with her mom. During the show she manages to get offered a job at a hotel and then ends up choosing to decline it based on the idea that she will get a promotion at her current job in the coming weeks. Her goal at the end of the show was to be out of the projects within six months. I hope she managed to accomplish her goal.

Another one of the people that the show followed was a single mom of two and a student...she couldn't make rent payments - even living in the projects - and she was trying to figure out whether or not she could manage staying in the place and if she should go back to dancing to make the money (she kept saying it wasn't an option). Instead, she makes up with her ex-boyfriend and he bankrolls some of her expenses until he is involved in a car accident and loses his job. Then the single mom has yet another mouth to feed and another expense to bear.
