James and the Giant Peach - 1996

Jack Skelington makes a cameo appearance in this movie.

That's something I learned with this, my 15th time, watching James and the Giant Peach. I think of this movie as a classic - because of the fairy-tale story, the wonderful songs and the ability for the movie to have been done more than 14 years ago and still FEEL like it could have been done yesterday.

James is a young boy who lost his parents and lives with his two evil aunts in a giant house. He's made to live in the attic, a spider is his only friend. One day a strange man approaches James and offers him a chance at incredible things. Magic green squigglies come pouring out of a tiny little sack and they spread all around, finding their way into a tree and producing a peach. A GIANT peach. The aunts see the benefit of having the World's Largest Peach and they begin to capitalize on it by charging admission. James is left to clean up the visitor's trash. He find the sack and sees ONE more little squiggly bit of magic. He drops it, watching it scuttle into the direct vicinity of the peach and before he knows it, James is changing and his dreams start becoming a reality.

As a side note, one of my favorite all-time children's movie songs is from this movie...it's called "Eating the Peach" and here's a link to watch it on YouTube!
