Julie and Julia - 2009

The movie that started this blog, the movie that helped me decide which chef to be in the 2010 TV FOOD NETWORK COOKOFF, the movie that inspired me to write and write until I couldn't write anymore - Julie and Julia.

This is a charming movie about overcoming obstacles, about becoming more than you thought you could be, about realizing your own potential, about shedding people in your life that you are better off without, about figuring out which things in your life are worth appreciating and saving...and oh yes, a little cooking too.

Meryl Streep is EXCELLENT as Julia Child and Amy Adams is WONDERFUL as Julie. Julie is a frustrated writer, employed as a 9-11 counselor desperately in need of an outlet of creativity in her life. Suddenly, with a little advice from her husband, she finds herself blogging about her life for a year - and her decision to cook her way through Julia Child's first cookbook.

This movie, while decidedly a "Chick Flick" can also keep the men in the room smiling if they're willing to be open-minded enough. I know that it was not Jeff's first choice the first time we saw this, but he found himself enjoying it in spite of the lack of first downs and pigskins.
