ONE HUNDREDTH POST! :)
Okay, now that THAT is over with...
There aren't many documentaries or movies that I suggest a certain group of people should watch. HOWEVER, I am going to break from the norm and just come right out and say that EVERYONE who CALLS themselves a Christian and everyone who CONSIDERS themselves a Christian should have this documentary as required watching.
Lord, Save Us from Your Followers follows a man named Dan Merchant as he travels across the USA and starts a dialog with random people on the street, celebrities and even pretty big church celebrities. I must say, more often than not I was SHOCKED by who he managed to dig up and what they said when he asked the pointed questions...like WHY are Christians DISLIKED? What's the future for a group of people like this in when random strangers view Christians as people who do magic tricks, people who tell lies and people who are snobbish?
The most incredible part of the documentary (and please know, there were A LOT of incredible parts) was, in my opinion, at the very end. Dan Merchant rented a confessional space at Portland's Gay Pride festival and he actually invited gay people into the cramped little booth and put them on camera and APOLOGIZED TO THEM for the way that the church in general treats them - and even apologized specifically to a man saying that he was sorry he ever TOLD A GAY JOKE. Wow. Talk about INCREDIBLE. It was moving and heart-warming for me.
Hearing about Portland's nighttime event where they care for the homeless was a great treasure for me too. I was excited to see people washing the feet of those that most people would deem as "less worthy". NO ONE is less worthy in the Lord's eyes. It's great to know sometimes that I'm not the only person who believes that the gospel is a message of LOVE.
