(For Thursday) Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas - 1977

What movie did I choose for my most favorite day of the year? Why, Emmet Otter of COURSE!

Emmet and his mom are the most wonderful kind of people - er, Otters. See, they're Muppets...and Muppet movies always rock. This movie actually came out in 1977 and I clearly recall watching it as a child. It's very hard to find someone to carry this movie nowadays, so I bought it on Amazon last year. It's STILL one of my all-time favorite Holiday movies - and NOW I have introduced my daughter to it too.

The movie opens with Emmet and his mom floating the river and discussing the death of Emmet's dad and they are also discussing the fact that they are continually trying to make ends meet. They find themselves thinking about what to do for each other for Christmas - and an upcoming talent show offers an opportunity for the possibility of buying gifts for each other, but neither wants to tell the other that in order to take a chance, they need to ruin something that belongs to the other.

The songs in this movie are just wonderful folksy songs. All were written by Paul Williams.
