Watching a Shirley Temple movie always makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside, but I am beginning to see a very formulaic equation here.
Orphan meets single girl and single boy, one of which is rich. Orphan brings said girl and boy together, they fall in love, get married and adopt the orphan.
Okay, it's not THAT bad...but it is CLOSE. :)
Stowaway was a very cute movie about just that storyline. Wealthy playboy accidentally drags orphan along on a ocean voyage unbeknownst to him. Sweet (but engaged) woman falls for orphan because her motherly instincts suddenly kick in and wealthy playboy ends up falling for her too. The sweet woman and wealthy playboy spend SO much time with little Ching Ching (Temple's character's name in the movie), that they start to fall for one another. The engagement is broken, the characters married and they live HAPPILY ever after.
Could you really see a Shirley Temple movie ending SADLY? Nah, I didn't think so either.
