The Princess and the Frog - 2009

This is a Disney movie I somehow missed in the theater. One I have had on my list of movies I was looking forward to seeing but wasn't overly excited about. I had no idea what I was missing out on.

The Princess and the Frog is a movie centered around one of the best inspirational characters to come around since Mulan. Tiana, an African American girl in New Orleans was told from a very early age to ALWAYS remember what things are most important and to work hard for wishes to come true. Soon after the movie starts, we see Tiana as a young woman - she's worked hard most of her life already - in hopes that she can make her dream of opening her own restaurant come true.

Enter Prince Naveen, a young prince a little down on his luck financially, but only for the short term. The prince's confidant convinces him to go for the sugar baron's daughter (and Tiana's friend) Charlotte and try to marry for money. Soon after meeting Tiana (in a most unexpected way), they experience life as amphibians and suddenly money and the restaurant become far less important to each of them as dreams take a back seat and love moves front and center.
