Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 1986

My favorite of the Star Trek movies, but only because Spock is accused of doing too much LDS in the 1960's. :)

Seriously though, it was refreshing to have a Star Trek movie take place primarily on Earth - and in the "current time" of the mid-1980's...which is actually back in time for the crew of the enterprise. Why did they go to "Alameda" where they keep the "Nuclear Wessels"? Well, they were trying to keep earth safe from the invasion of a probe that could only speak Humpback Whale. Yeah, I know. But COME ON, we're talking STAR TREK HERE...

So the crew comes to California so that they can grab two whales (one male and one female) and bring them back from the US during the 1980's all the way back to space to talk with the probe. Of course they succeed, and manage to show a person from "our time" the Enterprise. Pretty incredible - and something I kind of wish could have happened to me sometime. Alas, I guess I will have to be satisfied with a hurried glance at my uniform in the closet from time to time - and imagining a wonderful time on a holodeck somewhere, somehow.
