I was trying to come up with a good movie to decorate the tree by, and this one fit the bill.
Elf stars Will Farrell as an ELF - like the ones that live up at the North Pole with Santa. Yeah, one of those guys. Anyway, Will Farrell plays BUDDY, the Elf - and Buddy doesn't realize that he's not a REAL elf, but instead, LITERALLY a human in elf clothing.
Buddy heads out on his own to locate his REAL father. Armed with only his experience in working in Santa's workshop, Buddy heads for New York City to meet with his dad. He shows up at his office and attempts to be a singing telegram and ends up working in a major department store (as an ELF, what else?) until he manages to get himself fired from that job for freaking out over a fake Santa.
The laughs are consistant throughout and there's a great story here. The moral? Being who you are doesn't hurt you in the end as long as you find people who are willing to love and accept you for what you really are. :)
There's some terrific singing and a great scene with MY FAVORITE ARTIE, Artie Lange as the smelly weird Santa.
