A Muppet Family Christmas - 1987

Anyone notice a great proliferation in the MUPPET catagory in my world?

Yeah, I thought so.

Muppet Family Christmas was really the show that started it all for me. It's a family tradition dating back to the FIRST year it was shown on television as a Magical World of Disney special. I remember Michael Eisner introducing it and of course it's been butchered over the years - like several other "originally for television" muppet projects. I have watched it AT LEAST once a year - every year - for over 20 years.

Fozzie is the Muppet of the Hour in this program. He gets ALL the muppets together to go up north to surprise his mother for Christmas. She, on the other hand, is preparing to head to California to "lay on the beach and catch some rays". She rents her sprawling home out to the old guy on Fraggle Rock and his dog Sprocket. Just as she's about to walk out the door, Fozzie and the gang walk IN.

Eventually the Fraggle Rock gang AND the Sesame Street gang ALSO show up - and the only one missing is MISS PIGGY who is stuck in a horrible storm on her way to the farmhouse. It'll take a miracle and a fearless frog to get her home in time to celebrate the holiday!

  1. This is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. When the Swedish Chef is in the kitchen and sees Big Bird and starts thinking about roasting him, hilarious!
