Every now and then I manage to catch a documentary or a movie in "live" time where I can let it be my "movie of the day". CNBC was showing a pretty interesting documentary about Facebook - so I decided to indulge myself in a pretty light evening as far as time constraints go - and watch.
Of course they profiled Mark Zuckerberg and the changes that have happened in America and the rest of the world since Facebook catapulted itself into the vernacular and the "make this my homepage" regular-web-surfing-joe-or-jane out there set. I was surprised to hear that Facebook now tops Google for most daily visits. It sounds to me like more of us like being a part of a community of friends and loved ones than those who are still searching... *wink*
There were also several excerpts on people who have lost and gained things in their lives because of Facebook. One woman lost her job as a teacher because she bad-mouthed the school district. She thought her posts to her wall were private. Another girl found her long-lost mom who gave her up for adoption. Like so many things in the world, Facebook could be used for GOOD or EVIL. Let's hope there are enough people out there who know the difference - and who will continue to try and use it for good.
