Grumpier Old Men - 1995

Old people are hysterical. MOST of the time. In this sequel to Grumpy Old Men, we’re introduced to a new character played by Sophia Loren. She’s Italian, she’s beautiful and *somehow* she ends up marrying Walter Matthau’s character. HUH?

The first one was unbelievable enough – but I went along with it…I mean, Jack Lemon is at least CHARMING and KIND OF cute. But Walter Matthau? SERIOUSLY? There’s such a thing as believability. I mean, this one challenged all of that. It was certainly designated as a comedy/drama, but I think it should have been reclassified as FANTASY.

The scenery was different and the entire feeling of the movie was different. This was certainly one time where the sequel was cute enough I guess, but certainly fell short of the feelings that were elicited when the original came out. Some sequels (MOST sequels) just can’t cut it. When I re-watched the first one for the first time in about ten years, I found myself thinking “now why don’t I remember the second?!” – now I know. It just wasn’t worth it.
