Between the Folds is a documentary about the art and mathematics of Origami. We're introduced to paper-makers, artists, people new to the craft and people who have been doing it as long as they can remember.
We meet origami enthusiasts of all ages and in all parts of the world. Ironically, the only thing that was really common between them (beyond the fact that they love the art and experience of origami) was that they attributed the master of origami to be Akira Yoshizawa. Akira was a Japanese man who quit his job working in a factory when he was 26 to devote his life to the art of origami. None of his works were ever sold - he wanted it that way - and yet he managed to give such life to paper. He was the first one to wet the paper before folding and evolving the paper into art.
High school students and college students challenge each other to massive origami competitions now - one of the more interesting one involving students from MIT. So much of origami can be attributed to math and engineering. There are even those who like avant-guard origami - where there's just one fold made.
Highly recommended for ANY art lover and all ages!
