This was a documentary tracing the travels of a young woman through China's more popular and less known areas. We float, ride and walk along with her as she experiences what Shanghai, Suzhou, the Yellow Mountains and the Yangtze River have to show her.
Some of the more interesting moments in this documentary were the ones centered around Chinese Medicine. Apparently the documentary "host" (for lack of a better word) had experienced Chinese Medicine before and was no stranger to watching someone microwave a snake and then turn it to dust in some sort of snake-food-processor. She tasted the result - promptly stating that it tasted like burned bacon snake. Nice. Apparently it makes you younger looking. For me, I think I will go snakeless and chance the wrinkles.
Another interesting part was the exploration of a giant dam that was built in China to help eventually stop the terrible flooding that takes place along the Yangtze. Thousands are killed and homes are lost annually. The government decided to create a giant project - The Three Gorges Dam - and it was extremely controversial since it displaced many people, flooded archaeological locations - losing some ancient history for GOOD - and caused ecological changes throughout the region. Man-made disasters are some of the most interesting, albeit unfortunate, disasters one can learn about. I like to think that history is history so we remember not to repeat the mistakes.
