If you're dying to show a pre-teen a good mystery without a lot of blood and gore but enough excitement to mostly grab their interest while still staying true to the quality of good cinema - HERE'S YOUR MOVIE. Alfred Hitchcock is, of course, a master. And with this movie, Hitchcock takes us on a crazy ride through misunderstandings, frightening accusations, spy stuff and even some literal cliffhangers at the end!
In this movie, we meet Roger Thornhill (played by Cary Grant) who is mistaken for a spy that does not exist. While sitting in a busy bar, Roger jumps up to make a phone call around the same time that two men have the spy paged over the loud system. When he walks out of the bar, the two men grab him without giving him a chance to explain himself and whisk him off to a mansion in the country to try and force him into some dastardly deeds. Roger rightfully claims several times that he has NO IDEA what they are talking about. He gets drugged by the guys and ends up confronting the wrong person...who ends up dead. Since dozens of people watch the person die and assume Roger did it, he goes on the run - which only further convinces the bad guys he WAS the spy they thought he was.
Sound interesting? Wait until you see the twists and turns THIS movie makes. And the fight scene between Roger and the crop duster CAN'T BE MISSED. When talking about excellence in cinema, this one really blows so many others out of the water.
