(For Tuesday 5/31) Easy A - 2010

Sweetness is beguiling...and also a rare thing for teens these days. Nothing more than THIS movie will show you a glimpse of the freaky world teens live in today. Basically, you have a wonderful funny and juno-esque (and not in the large marge way) girl who is unknown and inexperienced in the way of sex. She decides to tell a girlfriend that she spent the weekend meeting a new guy and losing her virginity to him rather than the true story that she stayed in her room and sang and danced to a singing greeting card playing the song "Pocket Full of Sunshine" (yeah, I hate the song too).

So this "Hester" wins her "A" for adultury (see Nathanial Hawthorne's greatest work for more information about this) and suddenly becomes a slut. Boys figure out that they can use her newy found slut-dom to capitalize on their lack of interest by those of the other gender (except one, who just tries to hide from the fact that he's gay so that he can be like the rest of the crowd) and they PAY HER for lying to everyone that she's slept with them.

This is all well and good until the high school counselor (played perfectly by Lisa Kudrow) suddenly decides to sleep with a student (he's 22 and still in high school) and the student blames his sudden itching and burning sensations on the school slut. She decides to take the blame (yet again) and the teasing and the hatred and the name calling - and it becomes just too much for her to take when a boy she finds attractive asks her on a date, pays for the dinner and hands her a gift card and starts trying to have his way with her. She realizes the price she's paying for the experience seems to be way more than she expected. Will she find a way to get out of the entire mess without hurting too many people? You'll have to watch it to see. For the record, don't let anyone under 16 watch this. Trust me. While the movie is PG-13, it's just not suitable.
