(For Saturday 6/4) The God Who Wasn't There - 2005

So I figured I would give some equal time to the athiests and watch this documentary about the evidence that Jesus is just a bunch of hooey. Man, it really sucked. And that's not even the Christian in me talking.

In order for a film to be a documentary, I feel that it needs unbiased and factual accounts of something. This "documentary" was chock full of old movie footage that makes pieces of the Bible look campy and strange as well as scenes from a movie I would never be caught dead watching - The Passion Of The Christ. It basically used these little film vingnettes as evidence to make Christians look either silly or violent-hungry. Frankly, I was offended by both...and I have a hard time believing that very many athiests could even find merit in this film. Especially the ending - where the narrator and star of the movie decides to generalize all Christians, go back to his childhood school and renounce the holy spirit in his school chapel. It was just foul.

ON THE OTHER HAND, it did make me think a bit more in-depth about what I believe with regards to Christianity and the Bible. I try to look at the bright side of everything. In this case, the bright side seeing this dreck would be the fact that I can grow in knowledge and conviction while also examining some of the changes and growth I have made spiritually over the past 38 years.
