(For Friday 6/3) The Incredible Shrinking Woman - 1981

The first thing I am going to say is that this was one of my favorite movies when I was young. The second thing I am going to say is that WOW, my taste has improved.

Seriously though, it's not all bad. I mean, Lily Tomlin is amazing - always...and of course seeing my old bedroom furniture and Peanuts sheets set on the little girl's bed in the movie made my evening nostalgically wonderful. THAT SAID...I think I thought this movie was cooler back then because it seemed kind of futuristic. There were computer tests and graphics that BLEW MY MIND back then, and I laughed about them as I saw it again after all these years.

Of course watching a movie like this through your child's eyes (Yes, that's where I got the "Little Bar of Soap" song) is pretty terrific. She's willing to believe that the cleaning products mixed with chemicals in food and sprays and oils and every other weird thing in the world might have actually worked together to create an opportunity where someone COULD indeed shrink if all the planets were aligned. It was great to see the crazy-weirdness of the 70's and 80's again. I chuckled and it was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
