Purists think that this movie is total crap because the time frame is all wrong and it goes completely off the actual books. While I can't argue with their rants, I decided to watch the movie with an attitude of "who the heck cares" and try and judge the movie just based on the prior movies.
Frankly, I loved Anne of Green Gables so much that I couldn't wait to see more. When I was young and saw the first Anne of Green Gables, I so wanted Gilbert and Anne to be together. Then when I was older and saw the second movie, I wanted Anne and Gilbert to be together - and I was mad at Anne's stupidity when Gilbert asked her to marry him and she declined. So you understand why I was overjoyed to see Anne and Gilbert get married in this movie - Emmy even said "When I get married I hope my wedding dress looks just like Anne's!" It was a gorgeous white lace gown with a long veil. Gilbert looked wonderful in his officer's uniform. The entire movie was worth seeing them together.
In general the movie was very nice. It's always refreshing and heartwarming when a movie can be seen and enjoyed by adults and children together. I bet deep down a lot of mom's and grandma's can't wait to share the excitement of Anne's experiences with their children and grandchildren. For those of us who just love to see more of this terrific series, this movie was a pleasure to watch.
