The Ramen Girl - 2008

So Netflix has this nifty option where they actually pick movies for you based on the movies you rated that you liked in the past. I haven't gone through and picked one before now. I looked pretty closely at this one several times before deciding to watch it. I am not really a Brittany Murphy fan usually.

This movie seemed to have it all - it was considered a romantic comedy, I think, even though it wasn't really comedy-heavy. It had cooking and asian culture and a girl working through some very difficult things only to come out the other side a better person. A formula (or a "recipe") for my type of movie...it left me wanting a little more when it was over though...although that COULD have been my stomach. I was craving Ramen the entire time I was watching the movie.

[Note: Plan to have some Ramen on hand when you watch this movie, just trust me.]

The movie centers around the life of Abby who travels to Japan to be close to her boyfriend. The boyfriend leaves and Abby finds herself lost in a large city where it seems as if no one understands her. After discovering that she has a deep need to make people happy - to do something meaningful with her life, she begins working at a Ramen shop in Tokyo. She eventually is accepted as a working student of the owner and throws her own modern twist on the traditional. Abby also discovers that the more she lets go of her pain and her past, the more her future opens and the better and brighter it looks.
