Woman, Thou Art Loosed - 2004

How many truly horrible things have happened to you in your lifetime?

Michelle had a whole lot of horrible things happen to her in her lifetime - and most of them happened before she was old enough to even understand them.

This movie, based on a book by Bishop TD Jakes, celebrates the ability for a person - a soul - to find deliverance. A way to forgive a monster who hurt you. A way to get over a pain that almost destroyed you. A way to create a new life for yourself where you are the master of your happiness and God is a foundation on which you build your life.

The movie not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think at the very least, anyone who watches this movie will be able to identify with the characters in this movie. Whether you're the one suffering or you're the one standing by the one suffering - or even the CAUSE of someone's suffering...this movie can speak to you if you have ears that want to hear.

As far as technical execution goes, I don't know that this movie could win an academy award (although it DID win quite a few of awards for spirit and for African American cinema), but it was also privately funded (see the credits) which makes it impressive to me that they were able to achieve a successful feature film without large corporate funding. There weren't a lot of big name actors, but you could tell there was a lot of heart and soul put into the movie.
