Pretty In Pink - 1986

Saint Molly Ringwald is the queen of the John Hughes movies of the 1980's - that's undisputed.

Lots of unrequited love, lots of rich vs. poor, lots of outcast vs. popular...lots of teenage emotion. Oh, and it just so happens that I wore out my VHS copy when I was young because DWEEZLE ZAPPA had a bit part in this movie as a bar patron. I re-wound and re-wound it so I could see his precious face...um...but I digress. :)

Pretty in Pink is about Andie Walsh (played by Molly Ringwald) and how she and best friend Duckie (John Cryer) navigate their senior year. Andie meets up with and soon has a thing for Blaine (Andrew McCarthy). Blaine kind of has a thing for her too. Andie comes from the wrong side of the tracks and Blaine has money to burn. This causes a few problems between the two of them - but actually becomes much more of an issues with their peers. Apparently the caste system is alive and well in high school during the 1980's.

Andie and Blaine share a relationship that becomes an on again/off again/on again thing. The quintessential 80's movie - and the quintessential teenage romance. Definitely not for the non-Hughes fans. Sixteen Candles was better...speaking of that, maybe I have my movie for tomorrow!
