When movies come out - and you see them in the theater - a little something happens in your head. You kind of set a memory in your head and you come back to it now and then every time you see the movie. I was probably 12 when I first saw this movie. Last night when I watched it again (for maybe the 50th time), I found myself smiling when I thought about how many little tidbits of wisdom that I have taken with me through the years.
Perfect example:
"If he can't appreciate you for the person you are than he doesn't deserve you!" ("Sam's" dad, comforting her after she admits Jake barely knows she's alive)
See? How awesome is that? The movie is just FULL of stuff like that. Things I almost could have convinced myself that I literally heard come from someone else's mouth - and it was actually just from the movie. :)
Sixteen Candles is about Sam (played by Molly Ringwald) - it's her sixteenth birthday and her ENTIRE family forgets because her sister Ginny is getting married and they are a little more wrapped up in THAT. The Geek (AKA Farmer Ted - played by Anthony Michael Hall) has a thing for Sam and follows her around like a lost puppy. Sam has a thing for Jake and Jake is interested in Sam, but he's attached to prom queen Caroline - who ends up with THE GEEK! Throw in exchange student "Long Duk Dong" and his slight misunderstanding of everything American and the laughs go from the start till the end.
An excellent example of an 80's Teen Comedy. In fact, I am not even sure there could BE a better one.

I've loved this movie forever and a day.
