Peter and the Wolf - 2006

I was very excited to watch this because I have very strong memories of loving Peter and the Wolf as a young girl. I love the music and I loved the story.

For those of you who are not familiar with Peter and the Wolf, it's a story that was written in the USSR in 1936. Peter lives in the woods with his grandfather and one day goes out and leaves the gate open. There's a duck that lives in the yard and the duck wanders out. Peter's grandfather warns him that if he leaves the gate open, a wolf can come. Soon afterward, a wolf comes and eats the duck. Some hunters come to kill the wolf, but Peter convinces them to let him go to a zoo instead.

The greatest part about this is that everything is set to music. The bird is the flute, the duck is the oboe, the cat is the clarinet and so on. The story is told in symphony. What a glorious thing. The idea of setting a story and assigning characters a specific instrument is called leitmotif. THERE. You can't say you haven't learned anything from this blog.
