(For Friday) MST3K: The Corpse Vanishes - 1942

As far as MST3K movies go, this was pretty darn great.

Bella Lugosi stars as a frighteningly good doctor who spends his spare time chasing down dead brides he kills with orchids on their wedding day - BECAUSE he needs virgins. WHY does he need virgins? Well, because his freakishly scary wife needs their blood (more likely, their plasma, but we don't need to be too specific here) and their zest and joy for life on their happiest day in order to never turn into a funky looking old lady.

Bella shares his "castle" of sorts with not only his wife, but also an old hag and her two...hmmm..."side-show" style adult children (the movie's words). He enlists their help in assisting him with approaching a bride just prior to going down the aisle and handing them a poisoned orchid. He always writes a note that says something to the effect of "from your adoring husband to be" and "please wear it as you walk down the aisle" so of course every bride wants to wear it. But of course NO BRIDE makes it through the service to find out that the groom never sent the flower in the first place.

That is, until a plucky newspaper reporter gets involved and sheds some light on his crazy scheme. The frosting on the wedding cake of this movie is that of course we get the Joel and the Robot's ideas of how much funnier the movie is when we laugh about how serious Bella Lugosi seems when he's drawing the blood (plasma) from the virgins and how crazed the wife is. So much fun for the entire family.
