(For Wednesday 3/23) EverAfter - 1998

Ever After is one of those fairy tale movies that I think could be just as much (if not more) for adults as it is for children.

Drew Barrymore does a wonderful job playing Danielle, a secret countess-come-Cinderella who does her best to survive in a household where she's not supported, not loved, not cared for. She has so many wonderful qualities and none of them are truly appreciated by her married-into family. They rejoice in making her life difficult and creating busywork for her.

One day, she runs into Prince Henry from a decidedly DIFFERENT side of the tracks and emotions start going wild. The two of them slowly fall in love but she struggles with her lack of pedigree and keeps her scullery life a secret. She pushes the prince away and dreams of a world where they could be together. The major difference between Danielle and Cinderella is that THIS girl can find her way out of a problem and she FINDS HER VOICE. No one walks over her at the end of the movie. Instead, they look UP to her. A great, empowering and inspiring story for girls of all ages.
