A terrific documentary about Mars and about the chances we have at actually getting a manned spacecraft to Mars. One of the things that I loved so much about this spectacular documentary was the user-friendly-ness of it. Host Neil deGrasse Tyson makes this documentary completely attainable to everyone in the family. And he's entertaining too! You just think "wow, I would love to listen to this guy ask people questions for hours!" Kind of like a Spacey Mr. Rogers.
They cover some pretty important questions - like how will the manned craft keep the men and woman aboard healthy during the long time that it takes for them to get to the red planet. Then of course, once you've dealt with the how - you have to deal with the IF - if we get that far, what will they eat? There won't be a way to magically grow enough food to feed a crew three meals a day for the trip there and back.
There's also some discussion about radiation and safety - and of course the safety and comfort of the astronauts considering the different type of environment that they would be dealing with. All in all - a wonderfully done documentary that can grasp and hold the attention of everyone in the family.
