So a couple of years ago I couldn't go ANYWHERE without seeing this book in someones hand - yes, even my husband's. I decided I would read the book...and then I never did. I noticed the documentary streaming on netflix and I realized that THIS was my CHANCE. I would "cliff-notes" the book and watch the documentary instead.
WOW, talk about revolutionary - and unpopular. For those who have read the book or watched the movie, I am sure you shared in my surprise when the economist was discussing the drop in crime across the country and how it directly correlated with ABORTION. Wow, could you invent a more charged conversation to have with someone?
I think the most interesting part was the experiment done by the university where they paid teens in high school to get good grades. I was intrigued how it doesn't seem to matter the background of the child, only the ability to find what it is that truly motivates them. I will forever feel bad for the 15 year old that we watched fail every single class who invented a working tattoo machine from a toothbrush. The reality of the situation is that someone like that could have the world by a string if he was only focused. The most dangerous thing high schoolers have to contend with is their ability to see past high school.
Really an interesting documentary - be sure viewers are 16 and older...
