When this first came out, it was touted as this AMAZING experience in cinema. I remember hearing about it on every major talk show and expecting the sun, the moon AND the stars when it came out. I remember not really knowing what to make of it then...and I think I have some different views of it now - it's been awhile since I had seen it so I decided it would bee (ha!) a great option for Easter Weekend family viewing.
Jerry Seinfeld is Barry - a bee with not a lot of interest in following in every other bee's footsteps. Barry has a dream that he could be more than the rest of his bee counterparts who are graduating at the CLASS OF TUESDAY, 2:00 PM. Basically, when graduation's over the the bee rubber meets the bee road, Barry has to decide what he intends to do for the rest of his bee life. He doesn't really like his options - and he hates the idea of being stuck with something forever and making a decision that might negatively affect the rest of his bee days.
This movie is chock-full of talent - and once Barry gets out of the hive and into the real world and starts running into humans (one human in particular), he starts to learn and discover things about himself and takes a big stand for bees everywhere when he decides to take humans to court over stealing the bee's honey. Some moments the movie feels original (the hive scenes) and some moments the movie feels like A Bugs Life or Antz. It seems mostly derivative, somewhat original - just "ok", but not bad. I've seen better animation and heard better stories. All in all, a pretty good movie though.
