I didn't actually read much about this movie - I mean, I knew Russell Brand was starring in it, but I had no idea until I actually saw Helen Mirrin that she was in it too.
I was pretty torn about whether or not to see the movie initially, I was such a Dudley Moore fan (God rest his little soul) and so I hadn't really expected to muddy the original Arthur waters with seeing a remake. I am actually pretty glad I did though. I think rather than taking the second movie as a remake of the first, I would almost suggest thinking of the second as an homage to the first.
I know IMDB suggests this one wasn't too popular - garnering a trite 5ish stars out of 10 - but the original only got 6ish...so I guess that's not bad. I liked the beauty of NYC that we were able to see - the classy-sadistic-freakshow look and feel of Arthur's apartment, the woman-man relationship of nanny to charge rather than butler to employer. It felt good, it felt warm and happy and I LIKE warm and happy. It's not family friendly and I would suggest you consider going to the dollar theater OR even renting it on Redbox or Netflix to make sure you don't waste your money - but all in all, a very fun romp that is just this side of PG-13.
