This movie gave a little twist on the "girl likes boy and then realizes boy's brother is better" - Sandra Bullock plays "Lucy" - a hard working girl who really just wants a stamp for her passport. As a ticket collect, Lucy watches the charming and debonair "Peter" (played by Peter Gallagher) get on the train every day and she wishes for just a moment that he could be in love with her. Basically she fantasizes that he's a more incredible human being than he is...but I am getting ahead of myself.
One day, Lucy gets the opportunity to save Peter's life and ends up going along to the hospital and claims to be his fiance in order to stay close to him to make sure he's okay. Unbeknownst to Lucy, Peter DOES have a fiance - and one his family has never met. So...by a strange quirk of fate, Lucy becomes the fiance. And WOW, do Peter's family end up loving her to bits! Even his brother Jack, played by Bill Pullman. Jack's adoration for Lucy quickly turns to a more meaningful love and the more Lucy learns about Peter's real personality (he's pretty much a selfish jerk), the more she realizes she has feelings for Jack. Of course no one can know this...until she tells Saul (Peter and Jack's grandpa) the truth. Saul knows Peter is a putz and decides to make sure Peter and Lucy end up together. When Peter awakens from the coma, he convinces him he'll never find another girl like Lucy again. Of course Peter (being the selfish jerk that he is) only needs moments of convincing to decide that if she's so amazing, he deserves her. Jack and Lucy steal glances across the room and when Peter's REAL fiance finally makes an entrance, the sparks fly - in SOOO many ways.
This one is a cute chick flick - tween and teenager safe. Very sweet.
